On 19 August 2008, the fourth national symposium on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management was officially opened by Mr. Samsul Ma’arif as the head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).  The event was conducted in Sanur, Bali, and attended by 219 participants, coming from various INGOs, NGOs, universities and CSOs, UN agencies, central and local government, and communities. The three-day event took on the theme of ‘CBDRM institutionalization’, which was determined as a logical step towards a harmonized and sustainable implementation of the CBDRM approach.
